reWIRED 10 10 10

A recap of the message from First Church WIRED 10 10 10

Ask yourself three questions-
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your lives?
Who of you has worried so much that you think you have taken a year or so OFF of your life? Or have you caused someone else to worry so much they have lost a year or so?
Is there anything more valuable to you than life? AND if so, will worrying contribute to the thing that you value more than life?

Simple questions, right? We know that worry won’t add to life, may take away from life, won’t contribute to or add value to other things important in life, so it’s easy right? Don’t worry. And so in summary…STOP IT? But it isn’t that easy.

Read Matthew 6: 24-34 - Jesus tells us that our worry is directly linked to what we are most devoted to? Are the things we are most devoted to, really “life”?

What would your life look like if you lived your life confident that God loved you…and that God can be trusted?
How confident are you in YOUR ability to know, predict, or control the future…what happens tomorrow? Probably like ZERO…so why do we have such a difficult time trusting in God for the things of tomorrow?

Let’s do three things:
1. Knowing that worry is a waste of time, when worry creeps in to our lives, say to ourselves or better yet pray “God, help me not to waste my life with worry.”
2. Focus on this idea - We should do all we can do and trust God for tomorrow. Ask yourself, “Have I done all I can do, my best effort, been responsible? If so, can I now trust God to do what only He can do?
3. Let’s get at the root of our worry. Get at what we are devoted to…what is it for you? If my worry reflects my devotion, what am I truly most devoted to? IS this really life? And if not, maybe I need to shift my devotion and that’s why Jesus shifts our devotion…you cannot be devoted to God AND your stuff…

These past 2 weeks we’ve been focused on Matthew 6:24-34….if worry is an issue for you, would you be willing to read thru this passage, get Jesus’ words in your heart and mind? 1-2 verses are going to jump out and imprint on your heart and God can do something permanent in you, equipping you so that when worry creeps in, you will be ready to deal with it.

Prayer: God, let the words of Jesus be our guide so that we can live free and not worry, not because everything is going to work out and be fine, but because our faith has gotten bigger and we can live each day knowing that you love us more than anything else.
